On December 29, LG Display announced the next-generation OLED technology "OLED EX", claiming that the technology can increase the brightness by 30 percent , and improve the image accuracy, making the frame of the finished product smaller.

According to TheVerge, these improvements stem from two key changes. One is the use of deuterium in the chemical composition of the LG OLED panel, and the other is the combination of algorithmic image processing. LG said that the latter will predict the usage of each light-emitting diode in the TV based on your personal viewing habits, so as to "precisely control the display to more accurately express the details and colors of the video content being played."
